Vascular Laboratory

At Inovia, we offer expert Vascular Diagnostic services on site. This is very helpful when evaluating patients with vein and leg swelling issues, but also for looking at arteries as well. Our noninvasive vascular laboratory is a specially designed facility that has both equipment and personnel to diagnose problems of the vascular system in a manner that is safe, pain-free and accurate. Tests are performed, in our laboratories, by ARDMS registered technologists whose only responsibility is to perform these studies. These technologists have achieved the highly regarded status of RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) by completing extra courses and passing a very difficult examination. They are certified by a national accrediting organization, ARDMS, whose standards are exceptionally high. These personnel specialize in vascular disease limiting their focus to ultrasound examinations of the vascular system ONLY. Therefore, since these technologists focus solely on diseases of the arteries and veins, their fund of knowledge regarding vascular disease is, both by training and experience, very comprehensive.

The tests performed in the Laboratory include those to evaluate veins for blood clots or swelling and for causes of varicose veins, as well as to evaluate for disease in the carotid arteries for stroke risk; circulation in the legs; abdominal aorta for aneurysm or causes of hypertension (high blood pressure).

Patients may also schedule a vascular screening to check for potential problems. Screenings are offered for stroke (carotid artery), aortic aneurysm and leg pain. Please call for pricing. The screening results will be immediately available with a profile sent to the patient’s primary care physician.

VASCULAR RISK FACTORS:

If you have any of the following risk factors, you may have vascular disease:

    • Do you have high blood pressure or do you take medication for high blood pressure?
    • Do you smoke or have a long history of smoking?
    • Do you have diabetes?
    • Do you have pre-existing heart disease?
    • Do you have high cholesterol or do you take medication for high cholesterol?
    • Is there an immediate family history of stroke, aneurysm or heart disease? (mother, father, siblings, children)
    • Do you eat a diet high in saturated and/or animal fat?
    • Are you over 50 years of age?

These are for the most part the same risk factors as those for heart disease and stroke. For more information:  AHA
If so, you may want to consider a vascular screening exam. Our aim is toidentify those individuals with significant disease that require amore comprehensive diagnostic exam. With our qualified vascular technologists andstate-of-the-art ultrasound machines, we are able to assess the arteries noninvasively and categorize the degree
of the disease using abbreviated and accurate protocols.

Carotid Scan

Stroke occurs when a blood vessel feeding the brain bursts or is clogged, causing a sudden disruption in the blood flow to the brain. Carotid artery disease is one of the leading causes of strokes. This screens the carotid arteries in the neck for plaque buildup by visualizing the buildup of fatty plaque in them.  A Vascular technologist applies an acoustic gel on neck over carotid arteries. A painless instrument, a transducer, is moved around neck to visualize the inside of the carotid artery. With this screen we can estimate the degree of blockage, if any, in your carotid arteries. Call 541-678-5536 to schedule a screening exam.

Aortic Scan

This screens for the existence of an aneurysm in the abdominal aorta (the vast majority of people who have an aneurysm have no symptoms) by visualizing the existence of an enlargement that could lead to rupture.  A vascular technologist applies an acoustic gel on abdomen and uses a painless instrument called a transducer to measure the size of the abdominal aorta. This test can help determine if your aorta has an aneurysm in the most common location. Call 541-678-5536 to schedule a screening exam.

PAD Scan

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is the build up of obstructive plaque in the arteries to the legs.  Blood pressure cuffs and a Doppler ultrasound probe are placed on arms and ankles. This test can help determine if there are significant blockages in the arteries to your legs. Call 541-678-5536 to schedule a screening exam.
